The Food Authenticity Network recently released the Partner Project: 2023 Global Food Fraud Reports.

The 2023 global food fraud report reveals no significant trend, with activity remaining consistent throughout the year. The top three commodities with the most fraud reports vary by source, with official reports highlighting ‘Fruit, vegetables & legumes’, ‘Milk & diary products’, and ‘Beverages’, while media and peer-reviewed reports focus on ‘Honey’, ‘Herbs & Spices’, and ‘Meat & Poultry’.

The report emphasizes that these commodities’ frequent appearance does not necessarily indicate they are the most fraudulent, as factors like targeted sampling can influence the data.

Botanical origin fraud was the most reported type of food fraud in 2023, indicating a growing consumer interest in origin issues.
