FDA Releases Report on Economically Motivated Adulteration in Honey

The U.S FDA conducted a sampling assignment in 2022 and 2023 to test imported honey for economically motivated adulteration (EMA), such as the inclusion of cheaper sweeteners.
▪️ Out of 107 samples, 3% were found to be violative. This follows a 2021-2022 assignment where 10% of 144 samples were violative.
▪️ The FDA took action against violative samples and is continuing to improve detection methods.
▪️ The results of this assignment show honey continues to be a commodity susceptible to economically motivated adulteration.
